The CRYODUR blade is ice-hardened in a specially developed process at -196 degrees Celsius to a final hardness of approximately 63 Rockwell (62-64 HRC). The cutting edge is Honbazuke-honed using the three-step process to a 9.5 to 12 degree angle (19 degrees total), first sharpened twice on rotating stones and then polished on a leather wheel.
